Wholeness, refuge, welcome

I hope those are the things you experience when you interact with ReFramed (and its author, me).

I hope you experience a few more things:

  • Hope

  • Rest

  • Faith

  • Challenge

  • Awareness

  • Solidarity

  • Support

  • Fun

  • Proper grammar (American version) OK, this former English teacher and editor had to to toss that in.

And now I’m bothered that that list has only nine items. I wish there were ten of them. (If you know one of my favorite shows of all time, you will know that reference.)

I write for churches and their leaders—and the first thing I’m going to say about that is that they should focus a whole lot less on that leadership part. I also write for those who have been injured by the church. Often, those are the same people. Please find rest, wholeness, and a dash of playfulness in these pages. (Also, the Oxford comma, musical theater devotion, and incessant LOTR references.)

ReFramed seeks to create whole churches, pastors, and people, spanning all generations. It advocates for inclusivity and empowerment of women within the church, confronting issues of racism, immigration, and social justice to foster a community that learns from and values one another. Its mission prioritizes the holistic identity and well-being of pastors, promoting rest, play, and not thinking too much of oneself and one’s authority. It challenges the influence of idols within the church, encouraging thoughtful teaching and dialogue, not monologue.

Someone at a conference once asked me, when I told him what I wrote, if I wanted to be the next Max Lucado. I said no—maybe closer to Eugene Peterson. He looked surprised. I suspect he didn’t think women had such a theological bent. (No shade to Pastor Lucado.) Oh, what the church needs to learn about us women.
